I am uplifted by the discovery of all your personal details on Wikipedia. Yep, I did recommunicate with you yesterday,31st May. My name is Robert Wilkie, stethoscope collector, and I have just realised that I have been dealing with you for many years (possibly as long as 30-plus).
In 1996, I developed bowel cancer, at which moment in time I had a houseful of the instrument: positive action required! Snap decision–the first person I spoke to on the telephone was the curator of clinical medicine at the Science Museum in London. She enthused over the possibility of their ownership, but did not have sufficient funds to purchase the instruments. Determined, she sought funds from a Grants Committee with success! They subsequently purchased another, smaller collection. Since then, I have come to know the archivist of The British Cardiovascular Society, also in London, and who is also a working, teaching cardiologist up here in Scotland. I have donated to them various items of importance, including a major work relating to Laennec, the stethoscope’s inventor. Invented in 1816.
I live with my wife in Largs, Scotland, formerly I spent 78 years of my life in Millport, on the Island of Cumbrae. To continue: as part of the purchase agreement, I had to catalogue and describe all the stethoscopes. Subsequently, I have produced five various ring binders on the subject of stethoscopes. Sorry to have likely bored you. By the way, I was in my mother’s womb before the outbreak of the Second World War!
Best wishes to you and yours,
Robert Wilkie.
