Michael Lorber gained fame after he started selling luxury real estate & appeared on Bravo TV’s show Million Dollar Listing: New York.
Personal Life : Parents, Family and Education
- Michael is the son of real estate giant, Howard Lorber, and grew up in Long Island’s South Shore. Growing up under his dad’s eye, Michael intimately knows the multimillion real estate market in Greater New York.
- He developed a passion for the market early, attending open houses with his successful father.
- Lorber attended business school at Babson College in Wellesley, Massachusetts. He earned a B.S. degree in Real Estate and Finance.
- While in college, Michael spent summers working for real estate mogul & former US President Donald Trump. Michael was a supporter of Trump during his Presidency.
- After business school, Lorber went to Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law – Yeshiva University specializing in tax law. Following this, he earned his M.S. in Real Estate at New York University. As a licensed attorney, he felt inspired to go for his brokerage license and pursue his true passion in real estate.
Career, Job, Salary and Net Worth :
- Michael made his debut on Bravo’s Million Dollar Listing: New York in 2012, as a real estate scion.
- His father, Howard, was on The Apprentice – Season 3, so even though he disagreed with Michael going out for Million Dollar Listing, he was in no position (even as Michael’s boss) to prevent it.
- In 2014, Michael launched the SLS Team at Douglas Elliman Real Estate and has been super busy selling high-end properties both nationally and Internationally. He has also appeared in Watch What Happens: Live.
- Michael calls being a real-estate broker as being part banker, part lawyer, part architect, part designer and a full-time therapist.
The TV Experience :
- As a long-time fan of the Million Dollar Listing: Los Angeles, Michael applied for the reality show when he heard they were casting for a New York version.
- Of the three who received the roles, he was the only one without acting experience.
- He calls the grueling process of television “awful” and left the show before the start of the second season. Nevertheless, he has maintained some friendships from the show, and those he met at Bravo.
Escaping a Scam :
- In December 2014, Michael made headlines for thwarting a kidnapping scam which he calls the “worst experience of my life.”
- Michael received a phone call from a blocked number, where he was told that his brother, Brian, had been in a car accident, broken his hand, and where they’d taken him.
- He was also informed it would cost $2,000 in cash to pay for the car’s damage and they’d shoot Brian in the head if he didn’t comply.
- Michael wisely and discretely asked his assistant to confirm Brian was at his office, then notified the FBI and NYPD about the ordeal, learning he wasn’t the only victim of the scam.
Fun Facts, Height and Trivia :
- Michael works with several non-profits, including the AIDS education charity Love Heals. He states that cancer research and the work he does is really important to him, and wishes other young entrepreneurs would be more invested in not-for-profit work.
- He believes the East Side is the best neighborhood but calls trying to pick one comparable to picking your favorite child!
