- Laura Zerra was born on September 16, 1985, in Agawam, Western Massachusetts to parents Steven (father) and Elizabeth Zerra (mother). She has two older sisters.
- Zerra graduated from Connecticut College with a degree in ethnobiology.
Early Life and Education :
- When she was younger, Laura loved going out hiking and exploring with her father. As she grew up, she would explore further into the wilderness near where she lived.
- Zerra would explore coyote dens, stalk deer and try to walk just about anywhere she could reach. Her close encounters with animals made her change her lifestyle and turn vegan while she was still in school. She started eating meat again later and taught herself how to hunt.
- She would spend summers working at the Great Hollow Wilderness School in Connecticut, where she taught primitive survival.
- As hobbies, Laura started learning about bow building, tracking, and ethnobiological plants.
Career, Income, Salary and Net Worth :
- In 2004, Laura interned at the Buffalo Field Campaign in West Yellowstone, Montana, where she documented the slaughter of the last wild herd of bison and expanded her knowledge in surviving the harsh winter of wild Yellowstone.
- In 2007, she moved to Vermont to teach at Roots School and taught topics like brain tanning and meat processing.
- During the winter of 2008, she left for Mexico with no confirmed date to return. She traveled and hitchhiked there to the south of Oaxaca, then up the West Coast of the country, studying jungle survival.
- When she wasn’t teaching or honing her survival skills, Laura held various other jobs that popped up seasonally, like mushroom hunting in Oregon, tree planting for the Forest Service in Idaho, and leading horse treks at the Vermont Icelandic Horse Farm.
- In 2010, she decided she wanted to learn equine hoof care and got an apprenticeship at Sharp Shoeing in Belmont, New Hampshire. At the same time, she worked nights processing wild game at Baker River Deer Farm.
- In 2011, Laura moved to Colorado to start working at “A Lasting Memory Taxidermy” as a taxidermist.
- She was cast in Discovery’s “Naked and Afraid” in 2013 and spent 21 days in Bocas del Toro, Panama, which put all the survival skills that she had learned over the years to test. After her amazing performance in the first instance, she was asked to return to the show to complete another 21-day challenge in the Peruvian Amazon, and then again to complete 40 days in the Colombian savanna in Season 1 of “Naked and Afraid XL.”
- Laura wasn’t aiming at becoming a popular personality or influencer when she joined “Naked and Afraid”. Her main motivation was to be taken to a place she had never been and to experience an adventure she couldn’t create for herself.

- Laura teamed up with YouTube star Andrew Ucles and traveled to Australia to learn about its wildlife and live hunting animals.
- Living as a true nomad, Laura keeps learning new skills to further her chances of surviving in the wild. So far, she’s picked up the art of primitive hunting and bow building, shed antler hunting, exploring wild places, processing her own meat, wild foraging, freediving, and spearfishing.
- Despite being a perpetual nomad, there are two places that Zerra considers “home” — Missoula, Montana, and New Hampshire. She considers New Hampshire as her “Eastern Coast Home” and Montana her “Western Coast Home”.

Purely for survival reasons IF I were ever asked who or what would you want if you were stranded on an Island, or damned near anywhere. I would request Laura Z.No questions or hesitation. Perhaps the baddest woman on the planet in my humble opinion.
Zerra reminds me so much of myself in so many ways that I find myself intrigued to the point that I want to travel to New England and look for this women. I look at life differently since seeing and learning about her.maybe I’ll try that Facebook or something like that to try and find her. Stay cool Zerra.
Laura is an absolute beast. She basically carried 2 male partners through the 21-day challenges. She is definitely one of if not THE BEST all-around N*ked and Afraid survivalist!
