Wikipedia Biography / Profile Background
Introduction :
- Jamie Davis is a professional rough road driver known for being the founder of the world-famous Canadian towing company, “Jamie Davis Motor Truck & Auto Towing.” Ensuring public safety and swift clearing of wreckage is the company’s top priority.
- Jamie’s reality show “Highway Thru Hell” follows the daily operations of Jamie & his towing company. The show focuses on the difficulties of operating along the dangerous highways of the British Columbia interior, especially the Coquihalla Highway.
Personal Life, Parents and Family Details :
- Jamie Davis was born in Burnaby, Canada. When Jamie was about five years old, his father had a small tow truck, which he used to drive scrapped cars to scrapyards as a second job. Later on, he had his own small towing business.
- When he grew up, Jamie and his brother moved to Abbotsford and started a towing company together with what they learned from their father.
- Jamie would spend most of his time driving to and from Abbotsford to Hope, British Columbia, so he decided to just move to Hope to avoid this commute. Later, he broke away from his brother’s company and started his own. Jamie’s specialty is commercial truck towing and recovery, and he felt that specific expertise would be helpful in the type of work that came in from all the highways around Hope.
- He considers his brother as competition even though the companies are hours apart and operate on different territories.
- Jamie is married to Sherry Davis, who is also his business partner. The pair have four children together – James Jr., Brianna, Alexis and Brandon Davis.
- His wife, Sherry, grew up in neighbouring Mission, British Columbia. The family portrays is a close and tight-knit group and stays together in Hope.
Career, Income, Salary and Net Worth :
- The reality show “Highway Thru Hell” was first envisioned & conceptualized by Neil Thomas. Neil first met Jamie Davis’s rescue operators when his moving truck broke down in 2010. The very next year, co-creator Mark Miller and cameraman Kevin Mills went back to speak to Jamie Davis about the show.
- The reality show had some negative consequences for the towing company. After the popularity of the show, new competitors started popping up near the Hope area.
- At the end of season 2, Jamie decided to try out new territory and expanded his business to Alberta. But he had to withdraw soon after because a downturn in the economy had terrible effects on business, and Jamie was forced to go back to basics.
- At the end of this struggle, Davis realized that he prefers driving trucks over managing people, and he accepted the downsizing.
- Another negative consequence of the show was that the towing company lost some customers that didn’t want their wreckages filmed.
- On the positive side of things, the show has helped boost the local economy. Since the show started, many new businesses have popped up to meet the growing needs of the crew. The show also favours hiring locals.
- Road accidents overall on Coq Highway and surrounding areas have reduced because of the limelight on accidents and wreckage in the show.
- The series is growing strong, with season 10 beginning in September 2021.
Awards and Achievements :
- Davis is an avid collector of old parts from wreckage sites. In an interview, he’s shown off everything he’s proud of, including some original pieces. He mentions that even if the company goes bankrupt, he can restore an old truck with these parts and return to business in no time.
- Based on the success of this show, a spinoff series was started called Heavy Rescue : 401. The show already had a few successful seasons.
Are you looking for more operators? I was in the ARMY and did heavy equipment and towing of wrecks.
I love this show. I would love to meet these folks sometime. Whoever thought watching the Weather Channel could be so interesting. I’d like to purchase some of Jamie or Al’s merchandise one day. What a cool production.
My husband and I enjoy your series. We are impressed at how you retrieve and save the wreckage, and your company’s professionalism. Keep safe and we’ll keep watching.
I have watched all of your shows, several times over. Incredible professionalism…all your crew and your family. What a beautiful view of BC. Want to move there but I enjoy the warmth of Florida. Hope the show continues. Stay safe. I know how unsafe it is to perform your work as I am retired from ATT and worked in manholes located in traffic. Drivers just don’t seem to get it when it comes to emergency workers…they have to help those that are stranded. STAY SAFE!
My roommate Walt and I watch your show every day. It’s informative and entertaining. We have both been to Hope a few times. Nice friendly town. Keep them shows coming.
