She is the only child born to Jay Weiss and Kathleen Turner, who divorced in 2007.
Rachel now has a younger half-sister named Marlow from her dad’s current relationship.

Taking inspiration from both parents, Rachel shares her passion for music with her father, who is a property developer by profession. However, her ability to perform in front of others comes solely from her mom; while her dad is a talented guitarist, he is so shy that he prefers to play while backing the crowd.
Attending an all-girls school as a child further influenced Rachel’s path to music. After learning that a classmate — whom Rachel suspected of trying to steal her best friend — was taking guitar lessons, Rachel decided to do the same.

She continued playing into her teenage years while attending Ethical Culture Fieldston School — an Ivy League preparatory.
Three years into a degree in music from Hampshire College, Rachel dropped out of school.
Although she does not speak publicly about the reason for her departure, she has revealed that it was during this time that she wrote her single, “Dear Love.” Starting out as a letter in her notebook to a student for whom she had feelings, the lyrics imply that she may have been struggling with deeper things at the time than simply not enjoying the college experience.
