- Wiener graduated from the University of Leeds in 1981 with a degree in History.

- Wiener was a script-writer on News at Ten early in her career. She then worked at BBC South and at one of Southampton’s evening newspapers before joining ITV.
- She became a Home Affairs Correspondent at ITV News in 1988.
- From 1991 -94, she went to Brussels as a Europe Correspondent reporting on a range of key European news stories before returning to the UK to take up the position of Royal Correspondent in April 2000.
- She then became a general news correspondent in the spring of 2001, taking on the role of business producer and occasionally news reporter. After two years, post the completion of ITV’s revamping of its political team, Libby became a Political Correspondent.
- During the late 2000s, Wiener moved again, this time to Australia (from 2008-2009) and freelanced for ITV News under the title of Australia Correspondent. Upon returning she resumed her previous title.

- Throughout her career, Wiener has faced her share of controversy based on her unforgiving approach to political news. She was once interviewing the deputy Prime Minister Mr Prescott. She challenged him after new figures revealed that £1.1 million of taxpayers’ cash had been spent on one of his four homes in five years while he was promoting his drive to provide cheap homes for key public sector workers. Mr Prescott dismissed her questions as “stupid nonsense,” even referring to her as a “silly girl.”
- She also received backlash from the Labour leader Mr Corbyn after indirectly questioning him about Brexit. He claimed to have been harassed and stated “You are so rude. I thought you were a professional. Look at you.”
- In yet another controversial incident, she was booed for her remarks on Mr Jeremy Corbyn.
- Despite this, she has a reputation for being quite smart & shrewd in her field and not shying away from the many controversial issues in politics, especially as a woman.
