Bari Weiss is an American reporter & journalist. In 2017, she became the staff editor at the New York Times. On July 14, 2020, Bari publishing a resignation letter on her website announcing her departure from NYTimes.

- Bari has often courted controversy in her articles while commissioning articles for NYT. In early 2018, she attracted attention when tweeting A photo of Olympic figure skater Mirai Nagasu doing a triple axel with the caption Immigrants: They get the job done except Nagasu is an American and not an immigrant.
- She has commissioned opinion pieces on high-profile personalities such as Monica Lewinsky, Julius Krein, and Rachael Denhollander, who was instrumental in identifying Olympics gymnastics team doctor Larry Nassar as a sexual abuser.

- Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to parents Lou and Amy Weiss, Bari attended Pittsburgh Community Day School and Shady Side Academy preparatory.
- Bari grew up surrounded by diverse political opinions. Her family belonged to three different synagogues – Reform, Conservative, and Orthodox – and Bari remembered Shabbat dinners as well attended affairs where they always talk about social and moral topics and discuss politics.
- She went on to attend Columbia University, graduating in 2007. She was also a Dorot Fellow in 2007-2008 in Jerusalem and a Wall Street Journal Bartley Fellow.
- While in Columbia, Bari founded and was the Editor-in-Chief for The Current. She also founded Columbians for Academic Freedom with several other students in response to Jewish students being intimidated by professors when they disagreed with the professors’ opinions.

- Bari held several posts as a journalist, writing for The New York Sun, the Forward and the Haaretz.
- She was a senior editor at The Tablet, an online magazine with articles on Jewish news, culture, and politics.
- In April 2013, Bari joined The Wall Street Journal as their Associate editorial features editor. Weiss said her last year at the Journal was filled with frustration. “I was no longer able to write for the op-ed page because I kept getting stonewalled because I was told that my pieces were too critical of Trump and Trump supporters.” she said.
- From 2017 to 2020, she worked with The New York Times. She has appeared numerous times on The Bill Maher show in the last couple of years & also on Joe Rogan’s podcast.

- Bari was nearly named Bertha after her great-grandmother. However, her parents decided on Bari when they met a local actress with the same name.
- She had a love-hate relationship with her name. Bari initially hated it but grew to love it, saying it helped in her career. Early in her career, her androgynous name had made CEOs or major political figures stumbled thinking they were talking to Bari Weiss’s secretary when she picked up the phone.
- Bari is very pro-Israel. She was a critic of Barnard anthropologist Nadia Abu El-Haj receiving tenure.
- She is also on the board of ‘Citizenship First,’ an organization promoting civic education in schools.
- In June 2013, she married environmental engineer Jason Kass, who is the founder of the organization Toilets for People. The couple divorced three years later in 2016.
- Bari she attends Romemu, a non-denominational Upper West Side synagogue in the Upper West Side.
