Tyler Shultz is an American scientist and biotech researcher who graduated from Stanford University in California. Intelligent and confident, Tyler is not afraid to take risks, something he proved when he blew the whistle publicly on the infamous Theranos scam.
Personal Life : Parents, Family and Education
- Shultz’s grandfather George Shultz is a former US Secretary of State & a former board member of the Theranos company.
- Growing up, Tyler got to walk alongside his grandfather as he held 4 cabinet positions in the US and later became the president of a big construction and engineering company.
- Taylor and his grandfather recently fell out after the Theranos scandal.
- He graduated from Stanford University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology in 2013.
Career, Job, Salary and Net Worth :
- After college, Tyler began his career by joining his grandfather, George, at Theranos, the health tech company that was headed by young entrepreneur Elizabeth Holmes.
- Taylor worked as a Research Engineer for eight months but quit soon after realizing that Elizabeth’s so-called mastermind product, The Edison, was a ripoff and that she was running a huge scam.
Young Scandal Whistleblower :
- In 2015, the then 25-year old Taylor revealed to the Wall Street Journal reporter John Carreyrou that Holmes was blatantly lying about the effectiveness of The Edison machine, which was hyped up to be able to run multiple blood tests using just a one drop of blood.
- Tyler sent an email to the Wall Street Journal in which he detailed how he was concerned that the company was not being straightforward with its findings. This sparked an investigation, which later led to the downfall of the brains behind Theranos, the CEO Elizabeth Holmes.
- After leaving Theranos, Tyler joined Genia Technologies in September of 2014 and spent the following nine months working as one of their scientists.
- Shultz has also presented at conferences, universities, and corporate events worldwide, including Dubai, Vancouver, Barcelona, and most major US cities, sharing his story of exposing Theranos to a global audience.
Life after Theranos :
- In May 2015, Tyler returned to his alma mater, Stanford University, and worked for more than 2 years as a researcher. He left in August 2017 and co-founded a company called Flux Biosciences, Inc. in Palo Alto, California.
- Currently, along with former Theranos employee & whistleblower Erika Cheung, Tyler has started a new organization “Ethics in Entrepreneurship.”
- Since June 2022, Shultz serves as the Co-Founder and Head of Produc of The Healthyr Co. By early identifying health problems, gaining valuable health insights, and taking actionable steps, Healthyr empowers its consumers to take charge of their health.

- Tyler’s decision to blow the whistle on Elizabeth Holmes and Theranos’ dirty activities led to him developing a strained relationship with his grandfather, George. He stated that he had tried to talk sense into his grandfather and convince him that their company’s product line was a lie, but admitted that his grandad George was not willing to hear him out.
- It was revealed that part of Tyler’s motivation behind telling the Wall Street Journal about Theranos was Elizabeth’s interference in his relationship with his grandfather.
- In March of 2017, Taylor received a ‘James Madison Freedom of Information Award’ from The Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ).
- Earlier that same year, he was named as one of Forbes’ “30 under 30 List” in the healthcare industry.

Let’s see Tyler…he came up riding grandpa’s coat. Apparently has not held a job for any period. Earns income selling hot air, and ratting on employers. Is “happy” at others’ misfortune. Maybe he stopped and wrongdoing, but I would not choose him as a close friend.
