Introduction :

Jayme Closs is an American teenager who was kidnapped by Jake Thomas Patterson in October 2018 and was found in January 2019.
He lives in Barron, Wisconsin, where she lived with her parents, James and Denise Closs until her kidnapping. She attends middle school in Barron, where she enjoys dancing and running track.

Kidnapping Incident :

On October 15, 2018, at approximately 1 am, Jake Thomas Patterson, broke into Jayme’s family home, after killing her parents James and Denise using a shotgun.
Later, he abducted the 13-year-old Jayme, whom he took to a cabin located about 70miles away from Jayme’s home.

Police were notified by a phone call from Denise’s cellphone, arriving at the scene four minutes later. However, Denise and James were already dead and Jayme was missing.
Police launched a lengthy search campaign, including a $50,000 reward for finding the missing child.
On January 10, 2019, 88 days after her abduction, Jayme managed to escape and, encountering a local woman who was walking her dog, asked for help.

The woman, who immediately recognized her from the media campaigns, brought her back to her neighbor’s house and called the police. Jayme described her kidnapper and within minutes, the police managed to arrest the suspect. Upon his arrest, he admitted to the crime.

The Kidnapper :

Jake Thomas Patterson was born on June 17, 1997, and attended North Wood High School in a nearby town, Minong, Wisconsin.

He grew up with his two siblings and his parents, who separated in 2007. His immediate family described him as a shy person, who spent more time playing video games than socializing.
After graduating high school in 2015, he enlisted in The United States Marine Corps, but was discharged one month later.
Patterson had spotted Jayme leaving the school bus outside her home, triggering his decision to kidnap her. Other than this sighting, Patterson had no connection to Jayme or her family, not even knowing their names until he saw them on reports of the killings afterwards.

Jake was moved from Barron County jail to Polk County Jail due to a relative of Jayme Close working at the Barron County jail.

More than 100 volunteers helped in the search for Jayme after her abduction and, with over 1,200 tips submitted to the police, she rose to the top of the FBI’s “missing person” list.
A ‘Gathering of Hope’ was held for Jayme at Barron High School while she was missing.
While she was held captive in Patterson’s cabin, he would still have people over, forcing her to stay under the bed and threatening her with punishments if she would make herself known. While this worked for several months, one day, while he had revealed he would be gone for several hours, Jayme made her escape.
