She was born to her parents, Carol Bersoff-Bernstein (mother) and Edward Bersoff (father), in Maryland.

Rochelle is married to a scientist and physician named Loren D Walensky, and together, they have 3 sons. The couple tied the knot in 1995 and have been happily married for well over two decades.
Loren, currently works at Dana-Farber/Boston Children’s Cancer and Blood Disorders Center as a Pediatric Oncologist. He also teaches Pediatrics at the Dana–Farber/Harvard Cancer Center in addition to researching oncogenic and peptide pathways.

Dr. Walensky studied Molecular Biology and Biochemistry in St. Louis, Missouri, at Washington University and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in 1991.
She then went on to The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, where she earned an MD. Degree in 1995.

After graduating from Johns Hopkins, Rochelle spent the next three years at the Johns Hopkins Hospital practicing Internal Medicine.
She then joined the Infectious Diseases Fellowship Program at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital as well as at the Massachusetts General Hospital.
Rochelle also studied Clinical Effectiveness at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and graduated in 2001 with an MPH.

Rochelle Walensky has quite an impressive resume that includes a stint as the Office Chair of the National Institute of Health’s AIDS Research Advisory Council, a post she held from 2014-2015.
She was also chosen to be a member of the Antiretroviral Guidelines for Adolescents and Adults Panel by the US Department of Health and Human Services in 2011.

In 2001, Harvard University’s Medical School hired Walensky as a professor and instructor and later promoted her to Professor of Medicine in 2012. She left the position in 2020.
