- Carine McCandless is an American activist and entrepreneur. She is also a bestselling published author, having written the book Wild Truth.
- She is also the sister of the late Christopher McCandless, the literary icon immortalised by the novel and subsequent movie Into the Wild.
Personal Life : Parents, Family and Education
- Carine McCandless was born in 1971 in El Segundo, California, to parents Wilhelmina aka Billie McCandless (née Johnson, mother) and Walt McCandless (father).
- She had a brother, Christopher Johnson McCandless, who died in 1992 while hiking the Stampede Trail in Alaska, where he had planned to live off what the land provided.
- Carine also has six half-siblings from her father, Walt McCandless’s first marriage to Marcia McCandless. She was very close to her older brother Chris and continues to be close to her half-siblings.
- In 1976, when Carine was five years old, her family moved to Annandale, Virginia.
- She attended the Wilbert Tucker Woodson High School in Fairfax, Virginia. She graduated in 1989, three years after her brother Chris’ own graduation from Wilbert Tucker Woodson High in 1986.
- Carine has been married three times. She is the mother of two daughters, Christiana and Heather.
- She resides in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

- Carine has been a highly successful entrepreneur since she created her first company when she was only nineteen years old. The company was an auto repair shop.
- She has been a lecturer and member of the Penguin Random House Speakers Bureau since 2010.
- Her memoir, The Wild Truth, was published in November 2014 by Harper Collins/Harper One. Soon after its release, The Wild Truth made the coveted New York Times bestseller list.

- Carine collaborated with Jon Krakauer when he was writing the book Into the Wild about her brother Chris McCandless. The book came into being after Krakauer wrote an article about Chris in 1993. She also collaborated with Sean Penn when he directed the film adaptation based on the book Into the Wild, which premiered in 2007. She received the script and narrative credits for the movie.
- After keeping silent for decades (and also asking Jon Krakauer to keep the information off the record), Carine addressed the domestic violence she suffered, along with her brother, at the hands of her parents in her memoir, The Wild Truth. She also alleged that this might have generated her brother’s love for the outdoors.
- Carine frequently speaks at schools about Into the Wild and her brother’s legacy, which continues to inspire new generations. Into the Wild is on the required reading lists of many schools across the United States and worldwide.
- Carine adopted one of her daughters, Heather. She was the daughter of one of her ex-husbands with a previous partner.

If Chris live and made it back to society, he would have been a great author about his travels and experiencing the highs the lows.
