- In 1985, Ashwini passed the 10th grade from Pune Board. Though her name appeared in Merit List, she selected the Arts stream because somewhere in the back of her mind, she wanted to become an IAS officer.
- She did her (B.A) Bachelor of Arts specialization in English from Willingdon College in Sangli, Maharashtra.
- After graduation, Bhide completed her Masters of Arts specialization in English from the Savitribai Phule Pune University.
- While studying for her Masters, she was simultaneously preparing for the Civil Services Examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) required to become IAS officer. She came 1st amongst all girls in the 1995 IAS batch.

- Bhide has rich experience of over two decades in the IAS cadre & has held key posts such as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in Zilla Parishad, Additional Divisional Commissioner, Joint Secretary to Governor of Maharashtra, Additional Metropolitan Commissioner in MMRDA and Secretary in School Education and Sports.
- During her work tenure at MMRDA, many projects were successfully completed like First Monorail of Mumbai, Eastern Freeway along with twin tunnels, Elevated Road to International Airport Terminal (T2) Mumbai, 2 ROBs at Dahisar and Milan subway, 8 vital Flyovers, 25000 Toilets, Rehabilitation of 5,000 families, 2 km long flyover at Lalbaug junction and 35+ Skywalks.
- In 2015, she was appointed as Managing Director of the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation. Currently, her major work is focused on the Metro-3 project, a 33.5 km. long from Colaba to SEEPZ. It is also India’s longest and city’s first fully underground corridor. The project is expected to be completed in by December 2021.
- Ashwini Bhide has also organized a series of radio shows on the FM stations of All India Radio as well as Seminars for Engineering Students. She aims to answer frequently asked questions because The Metro 3 team had to embroiled in a court battle due to some misunderstanding. Her team even visits has even visited several Rotary Clubs, the Mumbai Press Club, the Cricket Club of India, and citizens’ groups to provide information on this project.
