Wikipedia Biography / Profile Background
Introduction :
- Alissa Turney was a young American girl who disappeared in 2001 when she was 17 years old.
- The police suspected foul play in Alissa’s case, but as of now, they have not convicted anyone regarding her disappearance.
- Many believe that Alissa’s stepfather is the culprit who has possibly kidnapped or murdered her.
Personal Life, Parents and Family Details :
- Alissa was born on April 3, 1984. Her mother, Barbara Strahm, met and quickly married Michael Turney in 1987 when Alissa was three.
- Alissa lived in a mixed big family. She had an older brother named John from a different biological father. Her stepfather Michael adopted Alissa and John.
- Michael also had three sons from his previous marriage. Barbara and Michael soon had a daughter named Sarah. All of them lived together as a big, happy family.
- However, in 1992, Michael got fired from his job as an electrician after he had an injury. Post this incident, Michael dramatically changed and was no longer the devoted father he once was.
- In 1993, Alissa’s mom Barbara was diagnosed with cancer. She died soon after when Alissa was eight. Stepdad Michael had to raise Alissa and his biological daughter Sarah alone. The combination of Barbara’s death and his unemployment situation “broke” Michael.
- Michael was very strict with Alissa since she was rebellious growing up. He frequently searched her stuff, and monitored her calls and place of work. In 2008, the police discovered that Michael had set up cameras in and out of the family home and had also recorded all telephone communications!
The Disappearance :
- In May 2001, Michael Turney reported the then 17-year-old Alissa as missing. He told the police that he dropped Alissa off at home after picking her up early from school and taking her to lunch. According to Michael, they had an argument in the process, and Alissa wrote a note that she was running away and moving to California.
- In 2008, a man serving a life sentence in prison confessed that he had murdered Alissa. This confession turned out to be false, but it led the police to suspect that perhaps the stepfather was involved in the case.
Possible Kidnap / Murder :
- Authorities suspect that Alissa’s disappearance was not a simple runaway case. Alissa had left $1,800 in her bank account without trying to access it. She had also left all of her belongings behind, which is very uncharacteristic of runaway cases. She never even contacted any of her friends, even though she was very close with them.
- Although Michael recorded and filmed the house, he did not give the police the video recordings of the day Alissa went missing. He said he reviewed all the videos and had found “nothing of interest.”
- Alissa’s close friends have claimed that Alissa had told them about her experiencing sexual abuse from her stepfather.
- Sarah, Alissa’s stepsister, said that they have even found contracts Michael had made Alissa sign. One of these contracts was written a year before she disappeared. The contract stated that “Michael had never molested Alissa.”
- In December of 2008, police searched Michael’s home on suspicion of involvement with her disappearance. They found a large number of assault rifles and handmade explosives. He had been planning a terrorist attack on the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Michael had written a 98-page-long manifesto detailing this attack.
- Consequently, Michael Turney was convicted and sentenced to 10 years in prison. He has since been released and is currently living in Phoenix.
Public and Media Reaction :
- Many media outlets and people (including Alissa’s sister) believe that Alissa’s stepfather Michael was responsible for her disappearance. There is an online petition calling for the police to look further into Michael Turney and his role in Alissa’s disappearance.

Why is it so hard to consider another of many corrupt incidents with Phoenix PD, AND THE PHOENIX FBI? NO EVIDENCE MEANS TWO POSSIBILITIES. EITHER I AM SMARTER THAN THE FBI AND PHOENIX PD OR THEY created this as retaliation for my past whistleblowing history on Arizona corruption and the border.
First they need to get a new attorney, this one sucks. He’s all over the place! This poor girl, loosing her Mom, being molested by her stepfather and also being harassed by this sicko. Then being murdered, this girl didn’t stand a chance and still won’t even in death unless they get rid of this prosecutor!
Michael Turney…Seems like he never liked his adopted-step daughter Alissa Turney, and it seems like he really hated her really bad. It seems like he hated her even more after her mother Barbara passed away. If you didn’t like Alissa and if he didn’t want her in his house then why didn’t he just call her Aunt that lives in California to come to get her, instead of killing her.
Also, where was her brother John living at, or if Michael didn’t want her to live in his house or if he didn’t want Alissa to live with her aunt in California then why didn’t he just let her go live with her brother or why didn’t they try to find her biological father, and let her live with her biological father or at least let her live with her brother or at least let her live with her Aunt in California…I mean it was stupid for Michael Turney, her stepfather, to just end her life when he could have just asked another family member to let Alissa live with them.
