Profile :– At 21, while most of us might be proud of making a good cup of coffee, Nikita Gandhi had won the most coveted title in culinary field i.e. Masterchef India 4.
On 12th April 2015, she won the desired golden chef coat. She arrived in Mumbai five months prior to that to participate in the show which went on for 11 weeks and 67 episodes.
Personal Life ::
Born in Ahmedabad and brought up in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Nikita Gandhi had majored in Business and Finance from the University of Baltimore in the United States. She has been cooking since she was eight years old which only reflects her passion. Her source of passion and inspiration is her mother whom she used to observe cooking in the kitchen.
It is interesting to note that her first-ever memory of cooking was disastrous. She mixed up teaspoon with tablespoon and end up putting a tablespoon of baking soda which ruined her chocolate cupcakes. Despite this, she never quitted which only shows her tenacity. ‘
Passionfruit Amrakhand with White Chocolate Pistachio Ghari- her signature dish reflects her experience of living in multiple cities across the world. She has imbued something into her dish from every place she had lived.
She lamented the fact that Bengali Rasgullas is one dish which she is unable to perfect despite many trials. Although she can cook delicious savory dishes, her specialty lies with deserts. She conceded that she was worried about the Indian audience preferring someone from India to vote rather than her as she doesn’t live in India. But touched by her victory and she even felt patriotic as she realized that India is where she belongs.
Career and Professional Life ::
Now after winning one crore as a prize on Masterchef India 4, her prospects are bright. She attributed her victory to her awareness of different cuisines. Being from Abu Dhabi she is well aware of middle-eastern cuisine while studying in the USA gave her knowledge about Italian and Mexican cuisines which definitely worked in her favor.
But she is not satisfied with this much and wants to extend her horizons by learning more especially molecular gastronomy which she came across in Masterchef. With a degree in Business and Finance and her culinary skills, she wants to merge them into a business venture by opening her own restaurants.
Her dish ‘Passionfruit Amrakhand with White Chocolate Pistachio Ghari’ already features on the menu of Sanjeev Kapoor’s Signature (contemporary Indian cuisine restaurant) at Abu Dhabi. She also has a blog called ‘The Veggie Fix’ in which her recipes are popular for being experimental and easy. It won’t be surprised if few years down the line she become the youngest judge of the Masterchef standing with the ranks of Sanjeev Kapoor and Vikas Khanna.
