Early Life and Childhood :

  • Glennon was born on March 20, 1976, in Burke, Virginia. She was bulimic at the age of 8.
  • After high school, unfortunately, alcohol, drugs and relationships replaced her bulimia.
  • The stranglehold of her addiction was so strong that Glennon lived in near total darkness, avoiding daylight and waking only after the sun had gone down. She was also admitted to a mental hospital when she was a teenager.
  • For her education, she completed her Bachelor of Arts at James Madison University in 1998 and became a teacher in Northern Virginia.

Leaving Addiction Behind :

  • On Mother’s Day in 2002, Melton came to know that she was pregnant. She decided to become a mother and vowed to never again have another drink, cigarette, drug, unhealthy relationship, or food binge.
  • Later, she married the father of her son, Craig Melton, whom she barely knew at the age of 25 and had three more kids. The couple got separated in August 2016.
  • She began dating former soccer star Abby Wambach in November 2016.

Early Career :

  • Melton began her online writing career in 2009, with the creation of her blog, ‘Momastery’.
  • She wrote in the early morning hours and published her writings every day before her children were awake. Over the first two years, the blog gained slow and steady attention. Then an acquaintance offered to redesign her website. The day after it went life, with “share buttons” that allowed readers to promote posts on their own social media accounts.
  • Doyle Melton published an essay titled ‘Don’t Carpe Diem.’ A couple of hours after the essay posted, it had been viewed over 250,000 times. The post had gone viral. After that, she was getting calls from New York book agents, and soon 10 publishers were in a bidding war for rights to her first book, a collection of essays called ‘Carry On, Warrior’.
  • The book was released and was at 3rd position on The New York Times bestseller list in April 2013 and eventually sold more than 200,000 copies. It also received the ‘Books for a Better Life Best Relationship’ Award and was a finalist in the Goodreads Choice Awards for ‘Best Memoir & Autobiography’.

Ted Talk and Career Growth :

  • In her 2013 TEDx talk, ‘Lessons from the Mental Hospital,’ she discussed the time spent in a mental hospital when she was a teen.
