- His grandfather, George T. Flagg, was a well-known pastor in Arkansas.
- Brandon’s dad founded the Greater Community Temple COGIC in 1972 in Memphis, Tennessee. He was also a COGIC General Board Member and an Organiser of the Tennessee Central Jurisdiction which was formed in 1981.

- Bishop Brandon began preaching in 1976 but did not officially become an ordained pastor until 1978.
- He was ordained by Bishop J.O. Patterson Sr. and shortly after, he became the Greater Allen Avenue COGIC’s Assistant Pastor in Jackson, Tennessee.
- Three years after being ordained, Porter became the Greater Victory Temple Pastor. He pastored for years before taking on the role of District Superintendent.
- In 1991, Porter was appointed Senior Pastor of the Greater Community Temple COGIC after being chosen by his father to succeed him. His leadership led to the church growing by over 5000 new congregants and it wasn’t long before a new campus was built in East Memphis.

These posts include being the President of the International Youth Department, the COGIC Today Executive Producer, the National Trustee Board Vice Chairman, and the Christmas in November Coordinator.
- In 2009, he was again appointed as his father’s successor only this time, he became the Tennessee Central Jurisdiction’s Jurisdictional Prelate. This jurisdiction serves over 80 churches across Tennessee and the US.
- Other positions Bishop Porter holds include being a board member of the Presidium of the Church of God in Christ and being on the Conference of National Black Churches’ Board of Directors.
