Personal Life: Parents, Family, and Education

Father Jim was born to parents Maria (mother) and William Blount (father) in Tampa, Florida. He grew up in a large family with two brothers and five sisters, fostering strong family bonds.
He attended Robinson High School, where he excelled academically and was actively involved in student council and the high school marching band.
Graduated in 1976 with numerous honors for journalistic and sports achievements, Father Blount also earned a full scholarship for the US Navy ROTC program.

Father Jim attended the University of Florida, where he studied Political Science, Social Science, and Naval Science with the intention of becoming a lawyer.
Despite trying to pursuing a career in law, he experienced a pivotal moment when he heard God’s calling to be an “officer of my army.” This divine message led him to change his path.
In 1992, Father Blount embarked on a spiritual journey by enrolling in The Seminary of The Holy Apostles. He received a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from The Seminary of The Holy Apostles, focusing on Philosophy, Scriptures of Saints, Functions of the Church, and Psychology.

Father Jim took vows of Chastity and Obedience, becoming a Benedictine Monk during his time at The Seminary of The Holy Apostles.
He spent six additional years at the Holy Apostles, graduating in 1999 and eventually being ordained as a priest in Corpus Christi, Texas.

After leaving school, Father Blount worked as a chef at Bume’s Steakhouse, a popular establishment, and also held positions at a local hospital and in construction work on skyscrapers.
In 1999, after ordination, Father Jim served his first year in the church in his hometown and then moved to Casa San Jose, Texas.
In 2001, he traveled to England to serve as a missionary for several months before returning to the US to preach in missions across the country to raise funds for churches in places like Africa and Belize.

Father Jim received a call from his brother, Father Anthony Blount, inviting him to come to Belize to help with the shortage of priests. He gained permission and arrived in Belize on November 1st, 2002.
In Belize, he began preaching and is currently the pastor of San Pedro. He plans to expand his services to three other churches, including the Caye Caulker Roman Catholic Church.
His mission in San Pedro includes inspiring the youth and involving them in projects to steer them away from drug use and other negative influences in the community.
