Wiki Bio / Profile Background
Introduction :
- Charles Decatur Brooks was an American Pastor and a leading Seventh-day Adventist evangelist, who was also the founding speaker of the Breath of Life media ministry.
- He died on June 5, 2016, at the age of 85.
Personal Life : Parents, Family and Education
- C. D. Brooks was born in Greensboro, North Carolina, on July 24, 1930. He was the tenth child of parents – Marvin and Mattie Brooks.
- Along with his siblings, C.D. raised on a 40-acre farm outside of Greensboro. The farm included a variety of produce and livestock.
- Before CD Brooks’s birth, his parents were Methodists, but soon after, they began observing the seventh-day Sabbath. They changed because of a pledge Mattie Brooks made to God while in a hospital bed suffering from a near-fatal illness.
- C.D. made his interest known for spiritual things from a very young age by teaching his Sunday school class at six years old. He was baptized into the Adventist Church when he was ten years old, and even at that age, he was very certain that he had found the truth.
- When C.D was 16 years old, he had a vision where he heard a voice tell him to make the truth clear, and then he saw himself standing and proclaiming the truth with power and clarity. C.D, who had plans to enroll in the dentistry program at the local college, changed his plans very quickly after that and set his sights on Oakwood.
- C.D. studied theology at Oakwood College for four years from 1947 to 1951. He got through college by work part-time at the school’s dairy farm milking cows, as a packer in a meat factory, and other odd jobs.
Marriage and Kids :
- While studying at Oakwood College, he also met his wife, Walterene Wagner, who was the daughter of John H Wagner, a staunch supporter of 20th-century Black Adventism. Charles mentions that this was when he heard God’s voice for the second time stating, “Charles, this is the young lady you will marry.”
- Walterene and Brooks were married on September 14, 1952, at the Ebenezer Seventh-day Adventist Church in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Church Work, Career and Net Worth :
- After he graduated from university, The Allegheny Conference hired Brooks. His first assignment was as an intern with veteran Antiguan minister J.G. Dasent for an evangelistic meeting in Uniontown, Pennsylvania.
- In 1952, C.D. began pastoring a four church district in southwestern New Jersey.
- Then from 1957 to 1959, he pastored the Ephesus Seventh-day Adventist Church in Columbus, Ohio.
- In 1971, General Conference president Robert Pierson personally called C.D. to ask him to serve as a field secretary of the world church. As a field secretary, C.D toured the world and represented the church in every place imaginable while preaching conducting evangelist campaigns the world over.
- In 1974, Walter Arties, a Seventh-day Adventist media personality, convinced C.D. to become speaker and director for a new television ministry that he had founded called Breath of Life. Brooks worked there for many decades, almost till the time of his death.
Death and Funeral :
- In early 2016, Brooks was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and died on the morning of June 5, 2016. He is survived by his wife (now in her sixties) and children, Diedre and Charles “Skip” Jr. and three grandchildren.

Where is Pastor Brook’s wife now, and how old is she?
I love you pastor CD Brooks. Even in death, he helped me to give my life to God. I moved away from smoking, drinking alcohol, etc. Now, I’m happy in Jesus. I listen to his sermons and it gives me hope and peace ✌️
He was one of the most wonderful, powerful and beloved pastors I have ever had the opportunity to meet. I met him at camp meeting in 1994.He inscribed and signed my program, which I lost later in Hurricane Katrina. God has used and continue to use him through his recorded ministry.
May we all meet him again someday on God’s Sea of Glass as we rise with Jesus to join His Father.
