Why was she not taken onboard with Stan for rugby?
Not only is Louise very lovely, but I prefer her sports presentation to certain others on ABC. Her refreshing style and her presentation are of a high calibre.
For Louise Ransome and Superwrap:
Can you ask the panel about the overuse/ineffectiveness of kicking in general play by Australian Super Rugby teams? It seems our teams work really hard to get possession and simply hand the ball back to the other team. e.g. They do not value possession. The other team can’t score if they don’t have the ball. Secondly, how many times do we see kicking when the Aussie teams are on the back foot, can’t create anything in general play or close to the end of games. They seem to try to create something, which at best is a 50/50 option, by a kick which in most cases, returns the ball to the attacking team. There has been a number of close losses that effectively hinge on the lack of ball possession that Aussie teams deliver to their opponents. If the Brumbies kick like they did last week against the Jaguars the result won’t be pretty.
BTW, love the show and love the general balanced insights to the teams and their performance (except for the acceptance of the kicking propensity of Aussie teams) Hopefully, we won’t do that in the WC. Great job team.
Chris,
I think that kicks in a game have a twofold effect
1 releasing pressure and
2 creating pressure
Depending on how you react and how you see the flow of the game
Releasing pressure: you might be in a defensive position and wanting to push your opponents further from your line or you might be trying to make them think differently about how they can get to your line
Creating pressure: you can box kick or sideways kick and always have someone available to either catch the ball or the opponent catching it
You can also play force back to gain momentum.
There is no disadvantage when kicking. I hear commentators saying that wayward kicks or kicking for no reason but rugby players kick the ball to either get out of trouble or to attack. I never listen to commentators when they talk dumb.
