Nancy was born in New York and raised in Dallas, Texas, USA. When she was younger, she used to enjoy watching movies with her father.
Though she is currently single, Nancy has been married 3 times before. Her marriage with her 3rd husband lasted for 12 years. The couple spent most of their relationship traveling between Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Chicago, Illinois.

Nancy graduated cum-laude from the University of Michigan in 1965 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. During her time in Michigan, she was arrested for being a part of a fair housing protest.
Hollander then moved to New Mexico, where she earned a Juris Doctor of Law from The University of New Mexico School of Law in 1978.

Three years after being arrested for protesting for fair housing at the University of Michigan, Hollander spent more time in jail protesting against Apartheid in South Africa and the involvement of Chase Bank in human rights violations.
After college, Nancy began working in Albuquerque as a lawyer for the American Civil Liberties Union.

In 1980, she joined the law firm Freedman Boyd Hollander Goldberg Urias & Ward PA. A few years later, she was named a Partner in the firm.
For over three decades, Hollander has represented several organizations and individuals accused of various crimes, from terrorism to espionage.
She is also admitted to being a lawyer by several institutions, including 9 U.S. Courts of Appeal, the U.S. Supreme Court, and the United States Army Court of Criminal Appeals.

Hollander is an International Criminal Court counsel member and was responsible for securing the release of whistleblower and activist Chelsea Manning after she’d been sentenced to 35 years in prison for leaking more than 750,000 files of top-secret information to the infamous website Wikileaks.
In addition to several other accolades and high-profile cases, Nancy has also taught criminal defense courses and written and taught more than 200 seminars worldwide.
She is also the author of a book titled Uptown: Poor Whites in Chicago, which she co-authored in 1971 with her ex-husband Todd Gitlin, an activist. Todd was Nancy’s 1st husband.
