- Lorraine Coombs was born in 1965 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She was adopted by her parents – Robert Holman Coombs, (father, a UCLA professor), and his wife, Carol Jean Coombs (née Cook, mother).
- She is the third of seven children that her parents adopted from various regions like Tonga, China, the Philippines, and other states across the United States. Her siblings are David Jeremy, Kathryn, Holly Ann, Karen, Krista, and Robert Scott Coombs.
- Loni grew up in Southern California. She has half-Filipino heritage.
- She has been married twice – First to Craig Maddux, with whom she had one child, Trevor, and then to her present husband, Steve Carlston.

According to Coombs, her youthful appearance and her skin color made her stand out in her early days at BYU.
- Graduating from Brigham Young University at the age of 19 made Looni the youngest woman to graduate from a private university at that stage. She had a major in psychology and a minor in music.
- After having her son at a young age, Loni’s dad suggested a law career, because it would be intellectually stimulating and provide financial stability. Thus, Coombs went on to study at Pepperdine Law School, graduating in 1988 as a ‘Doctor of Law (Juris Doctor).’

- Loni started working for the Los Angeles District Attorney in 1987 as a criminal prosecutor. During her time there, she tried all sorts of cases ranging from petty crimes to serious ones like gang thefts and murder.
- By 2001, she was made the deputy in charge of overseeing the district attorney’s Malibu office and tried several celebrity cases for the likes of Nicole Richie and Nick Nolte.
- Loni took leave from the District Attorney’s office in 2006 and started doing freelance TV work.
- Coombs has worked as a legal analyst for CNN, The View, KTLA, Entertainment Tonight, and many other media networks. She ever earned an AP award for her daily coverage of record producer Phil Spector’s trial on KTLA.
- In June 2011, she had appeared in an episode of Dr. Phil, where she discussed domestic abuse victims’ cases, especially women who have suffered from eye injuries and had to undergo surgery.
- Loni is also the author of a book on parenthood titled You’re Perfect: And Other Lies Parents Tell.
- Throughout her career, Coombs has covered high-profile trials, including those of O.J. Simpson, Casey Anthony, Jodi Arias, and George Zimmerman.

This lady is obviously a beautiful woman, and extremely intelligent and worthy of all the success she has achieved as a television personality. But I was wondering, if she is “half” Filipino, what is the ethnicity of the other half. In my experience the name Combs, has turned out to be Jewish, more often than not. Just curious!

Every time I see Loni on whatever show she is on you can see her interest and determination by answering all the questions she’s asked with getting the facts out there about certain stories and also caring about the victim’s families Very smart and beautiful woman. I bet she was one hell of a tough prosecutor. My advice is if your interested in crime and murder stories and Loni is on the show. Sit back and watch a professional go to work to solve whatever crime is in front of her.
