While attending high school, Kristen noticed that there was no school newspaper, so she started one.
Kristen attended the Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario, from 2007 to 2010. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English.
In 2011, she achieved a graduate certificate in sports journalism from the Loyalist College in Belleville, Ontario. She also received the JP Hunt Award for Excellence in Sports Journalism while there.

In 2012, Kristen also achieved a Master of Arts degree in Magazine, Newspaper, and Online Journalism from Syracuse University, a private university in Syracuse, New York.
After living in many US states like New York, Indiana, and Chicago, Kristen has returned to Canada. Currently, she resides in Toronto.
