Thais Baker was a model, and was married to two popular American athletes- Steve Bren and Fred Couples.

Personal Life, Parents and Family Details :

Thais Antoinette Baker was born on 26th February 1962, in Santa Barbara, USA and was raised in Malibu. She has two brothers.
The family are direct descendants of the Foxen family, related to the De La Querras and the Cotas, founding families of Santa Barbara.
Thais died from a severe case of breast cancer in 2009, in her home in Montecito, California. She was buried in the Santa Barbara Cemetery.

Marriages & Health :

In 1988, Thais married racing driver Steve Bren. Together they had two children, Gigi and Oliver. The couple divorced in 1990.
Her wedding with Bren was called a ‘power wedding’ by the Los Angeles Times. Former president of the USA Ronald Reagan & former Governor George Deukmejian, were invited to the celebration.

Baker married for a second time in 1998, this time to famous golfer Fred Couples.
She was still married to Fred when she passed away, but divorce proceedings had been ongoing for three years. Couples learned of her death while he was away on a tournament.
Thais rarely said anything about their rocky relationship to the media, but the golfer did, and admitted that her illness and his busy career were contributing factors to their breakup.

Thais Baker Death :

The model was diagnosed with cancer a few weeks after she started dating Fred, in the mid-1990s. They met at the Nissan Open at Riviera. The golfer was by her side as Thais underwent aggressive treatments at clinics both in Switzerland and Chicago.
Despite the treatment, by 2008 her health got increasingly worse.

According to the golfer, Thais wanted to die in her own house in Santa Barbara.
Between 2005 and 2007, her relationship with Couples was on and off. They separated, but never divorced, and he went to live with another woman. They tried to reconcile, but the peace lasted for only for a few months.
Allegedly, Baker never let her second husband close to her children, especially in the harder parts of her illness.

After her death, her children were looked after by friends of the family, and kept in touch with their mother’s former partner, Fred, even though her friends apparently considered him a bad person, as the athlete revealed in an interview.
Thais’ mother Sandra died the same year as her daughter.
