- Peter Murrell is the Chief Executive of the Scottish National Party SNP & the husband of Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon.
- Murrell is a largely private person with little details of his life available. His presence online and in the media is mainly in support of his role at SNP.

- As per his Facebook profile, Peter is originally from Edinburgh and was educated at Craigmount High School.

Relationship with Nicola Sturgeon :
- Peter and Nicola met at a Young Scottish Nationalists gathering in Aberdeenshire in 1988 when Nicola was 18.
- They began a relationship and Peter proposed at Hogmanay in 2000. The couple announced their engagement in January 2010. Back then, Nicola was 40 & Peter was 45.
- They were married on 16th July the same year in an afternoon ceremony followed by an evening reception for friends and SNP colleagues.

- The couple does not have any children. Nicole had a miscarriage in 2011, something that was kept private until it was revealed in a book extract.
- The decision to talk about the miscarriage was to break a ‘taboo’ and to highlight that the reasons high-profile women do not have children should be respected as personal.
- The couple thanked well-wishers for their show of support at the painful revelation.
