Formerly the President of Santa Cruz Natural History Museum, Patty now sits on the Board of Directors.

Patty attended John S. Burke Catholic High School in Goshen, New York. She later on graduated from Cornell University.
Little information is available on her early life nor on how she meet her husband, Reed, a former Marine corp and member of the Peace Corp.
She married Reed Hastings in 1991 when the entrepreneur was setting up his company Pure Software. They have two children, whose names were kept away from social media.
