Keith was born in 1974 in Polson, Montana. There, he grew up surrounded by nature and farmland, which made his acquisition of the Colorado ranch much easier to do once he got older.
While attending Yale University, Christian met Martin, who was also a student there.

After continuing to run into each other, they began dating, and on May 15, 1999, they married each other.
