Introduction :
Justin Mikita is an American actor, who is more well-known for his marriage to Modern Family star Jesse Tyler Ferguson.
Personal Life : Parents, Family and Education
- Justin was born in September 1985 in Tarzana, California.
- He was given the full name Justin Nathaniel Mikita at birth, although he has said he despises his middle name.
- His parents recognized his sexuality from a young age, as such he never had to have a big ‘coming out’ moment with him.
- He has praised his parents often for being so supportive of his sexuality.
Justin Mikita Cancer Treatment :
- In 1997, at the age of 12, Justin was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, which is a form of cancer.
- He spent the next 2 years in and out of hospital and underwent chemotherapy.
- Initially, his doctors thought he would not survive the illness & his parents began to make preparations for his death.
- However, he was a fighter and was determined to get through it. In 1999, he was declared to be in remission, and as of 2019 – he has been cancer free for twenty years.
Marriage to Jesse Tyler Ferguson :
- In 2009, Justin met Modern Family fame actor Jesse Tyler Ferguson at a Hollywood party. Ferguson was instantly attracted to him, but he took a little more persuading.
- They two dated for three years & later got engaged on a Caribbean holiday in September 2012.
- On July 20, 2013, they married in New York City, as they stated that it was the closest legal place to get the ceremony done.
- The ceremony took place at the courthouse, with just close family, however, it was followed by a reception for their friends at a private nightclub later that day.
- Mikita has been quoted as saying his reception was super fun, however, he was concerned that Sofia Vergara (Ferguson’s Co-Star) would split her dress open on the dance floor due to her vigorous dancing.
- When the couple was asked about the state of their relationship in 2016, they both replied that kids would be their next big adventure.

- As an actor, Mikita has appeared in the movie Can’t Be Heaven (2000).
- He worked in a co-producer role on the movies 8 (2002) & Through the Woods (2013).
- In 2013, he appeared on the TV show, Culture Pop, as a commentator.
- With his husband, he owns a tie company called “Tie the Knot.” The company’s aim is to advocate for the civil rights of gay and lesbians & to ‘look damn good’ while they do it. They release seasonal ties, and all proceeds support LGBT organizations.
- He has previously worked for the American Foundation, and was on the team that eventually orchestrated the overturn of Proposition 8 – a ballot that was to eliminate the right for same-sex couples to marry.
