Early Life and Education :

  • In 1976, Charlotte’s dad came across an article in the Sunday Times, headlined “Slum Zoo of Britain.” With no background in zoology, he left his engineering job in Manchester and purchased the run-down zoo.
  • Eventually, the zoo turned around, and Charlotte grew up with wild animals (including bears and tigers) walking around the house.
  • She even bathed with some of the jungle cats, and in several interviews, describes her mom picking her up from school with a leopard in the front seat.
  • Although her original intention was to study animal behaviour in university, Charlotte gave up her postsecondary education to help out at the zoo.
  • Part of her decision was because a tiger named Zia arrived at the zoo around the same time she was set to start.
  • Charlotte immediately bonded with Zia and hand-reared the cub until she was able to feed on her own.

Career, Job, Salary and Net Worth :

  • In 2003, Charlotte’s dad passed away, and she took over operations of the zoo. In addition to looking after the animals, rescuing animals, and managing daily operations of the zoo, she helped to promote the zoo through a series called Tiger Island which was featured on the National Geographic channel. She officially inherited the zoo in 2013 when her mom retired as the owner.
  • When not doing work directly related to the zoo, Charlotte is still working as an activist for animal rights and wildlife conservation. She has raised money and volunteered for organizations like Fauna and Flora International, and is often involved with animal-related issues through various organizations.

Fun Facts, Height and Trivia :

  • In addition to animals, she also loves subtitled art-house movies.
