- April McClain Delaney is an American communications lawyer and entrepreneur. She is also the wife of politician John Kevin Delaney, who was a Democratic nominee for the 2020 Presidential Elections.
Personal Life : Parents, Family and Education
- April Delaney (maiden name April McClain) was born on May 25, 1964, in Buhl, Twin Falls County, Idaho, to parents – Laurie Kay (Hugie) McClain (mother) and Thomas C. McClain (father).
- April’s father was a potato farmer, and her mother had a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education and was involved in several boards, guilds, and social endeavors.
- She was raised on her father’s farm along with two siblings – Sister, Kristen, and a brother, Alexander.
- Education : April attended Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, from 1982 to 1986. She graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications.
- She then relocated to Washington, D. C., to attend Georgetown University’s Law Center from 1987 to 1989. She graduated as a Doctor of Law (Juris Doctor).
- While studying at Georgetown University’s Law Center, April met the man who would become her husband, John Delaney. The two were engaged soon after meeting.
- Together with her husband, April has four daughters: Summer, Brooke, Lily, and Grace.

- In 1989, April began her career as a proficient regulatory lawyer in Washington, D. C. One of her first jobs was as a FCC regulatory lawyer for Cohn and Marks LLP, a role in which she remained until 1993.
- She then worked out of Rockville, Maryland, for Loral Space and Communications as an assistant general council and regulatory affairs director of the Orion network systems.
- In 1998, April worked for USAT, a satellite-based service provider for the Asian Pacific region.
- In 2001, April became a board member for the Northwestern University School of Communications, a position she has since held.
- Since January 2006, she has also been on the board of Georgetown University’s Law Center.
- April became the Washington director for Common Sense Media in 2006. Common Sense Media is a non-profit organization that studies the effect of media on children.
- In December 2012, she also became a board member for the International Center for Research on Women, and then also joined the advisory board of Georgetown University’s Institute for Women, Peace, and Security.

- The day after they first met, April’s future husband John Delaney advised her on course selections for law school (being a year ahead of her), and then promptly changed his own selections to match her picks! John later proposed to April on her birthday.
- April speaks Italian fluently and has spent a lot of time practicing the language during her travels.
- Two of April’s daughters were also students of Northwestern University like herself.
- John and April supported Hillary Clinton in the 2016 Presidential election. They held a fundraiser for the campaign in their home.
