- Liz started her career by working as a chef in a pub in North Melbourne. Her friend owned the pub and was looking for a chef when Liz expressed her interest and started the very next day.
- She started her own catering company with a partner in 1986 & the business grew so big in six months that it required its own commercial kitchen. So Liz, along with the same partner, bought the restaurant Onions in Prahran only for its commercial kitchen with no intention of keeping it running as a restaurant, but in the end, they decided to let it run. The restaurant did so well that it was awarded two The Age Good Food Guide chef hats.
- After selling the restaurant, Liz opened another restaurant in inner Melbourne with two partners called Becco, which had an open kitchen. Liz counts opening Becco as one of the scariest experiences of her life, as patrons could see her in the kitchen, cooking their meals, which left her feeling exposed!
- In 2011, Egan smashed her shoulder badly in a bodysurfing accident. Her youngest daughter, who was surfing alongside her, saved her after realizing what was happening.
- After her accident in 2011, her commercial cooking career ended abruptly. Liz has now moved on to donning other roles in the cooking industry, like becoming a judge in the popular cooking show My Kitchen Rules. Other judges, along with her, like Karen Martini and Guy Grossi, were already Liz’s friends from the industry.
