A powerful Latina woman with a powerful voice, Yesi Ortiz is an assistant music director and a beloved host of the Los Angeles music station Power 106.
Personal Life : Childhood and Family
- Yesi was born and raised in Orange County, California, to Mexican immigrant parents who divorced when she was still a baby.
- Her neighborhood was predominantly white & she always had difficulty making friends, which led her to be shy and reclusive.
- Although she grew up having a tumultuous relationship with her mother, her fondest memories had always been singing along with her to local radio stations. One of those stations was Power 106.
Adulthood :
- After deciding to try and land a job at that radio station, Yes worked to overcome her shyness and bounced around the California area working.
- While doing so, she received word from her family that her sister’s six kids, three boys and three girls, had been taken by Child Protective Services.
- She spent the next few years grappling with California’s foster care system until, at age 25, she was finally able to adopt all six of them. She later fostered another child and adopted them, bringing her total to 7.
- On December 12, 2020, Yesi got married to a licensed psychologist, Dr. Milo L. Dodson. The two had first met in 2015.

- Yesi’s path to becoming “The Queen of LA” began when she heard an ad on the radio for broadcasting school right after she graduated high school.
- With no plans to go off to a university and with uncertainty about how to begin a career, she signed up and went to the Academy of Radio and Television Broadcasting.
- She graduated in the late 1990s and began her career immediately.
Work on Radio, Salary and Net Worth :
- Yesi first landed a job at Hot 97.5 in Las Vegas, where she hosted the “Latin Diva.”
- After she learned that her nieces and nephews had been taken away, she took a job with the San Diego-based station Blazin’ 98.9 that would put her in Tijuana, Mexico. There, she took a cheap apartment and used most of her money on legal fees for her sister’s children.
- After finally gaining custody of her nieces and nephews, Ortiz returned to California and began co-hosting a morning show on Channel 933 called AJ’s Playhouse.
- In 2006, with the help of her old Las Vegas mentor, she contacted Power 106 and asked if she’d be able to meet with someone in the hopes of filling any positions that might open up in the future. They agreed and liked her interview so much that they gave her a spot hosting their mid-day show.
- Ortiz continues to work at Power 106.

- Yesi also hosts a TV and web series on NuvoTV, a station run by Jennifer Lopez.
- She’s even created her own documentary, Single with 7, to talk about growing up as a single mother, and has also appeared on the reality TV series Love and Hip Hop Hollywood.
