  • Rieger was born on April 18, 1956, in Norfolk, Virginia. Her mother was an English school teacher from Louisiana, and her father was a retired pilot from Ohio.
  • Wendy was eight years old when her parents divorced and went their separate ways.
  • In Sept 1993, Rieger got married to Sol Levine, who was working as a producer for CNN at the time. The two are now separated. Wendy has been together with her boyfriend Patrick, since 2016.
  • Wendy has been in the news business for more than three decades and celebrated her 30th anniversary in the industry with the NBC4 network in Washington in March 2018.

  • Besides anchoring, Wendy was also a solid reporter for many years. One of her most popular segments was “Going Green” on NBC, which then inspired a series on NBC Nightly News.
  • Wendy is a winner of three Emmy Awards, and one of them was for her special report shot in Vietnam on home video 20 years after war.
  • In April 2008, Washington magazine readers presented Rieger with one of its inaugural Green Awards in recognition of her dedication to preserving the environment through education.

    I have enjoyed your newscasts through the years and also your beauty. A friend once told me that he had seen you at a restaurant or bar (10 – 15 years ago). He said, “If you think she is good-looking on-screen, she is even more beautiful in person.” Not to make too much of that. I really enjoyed your personality and your delivery of the news. Sorry that you had the cancer problem, And, I hope you are really OK now.
