Soumada is a graduate of Lakewood High School in California.
Later, she went on to attended The University of California, Irvine, where she graduated with a Political Science degree.
She went on to pursue a Masters in the Meteorology Program at the Mississippi State University.

She is married to her husband Jason Smith and they reside in LA. Jason is a military man & has served with the 82nd Airborne Division. Since late 2017, the couple are proud parents to a baby boy. The good news was announced on-air & also on Soumada’s Facebook page.

Soumada began her journalism career in Los Angeles at KTLA Channel 5 immediately after graduating high school in 1999.
She continued work while attending University and stayed at KTLA for 15 years covering news in and around Los Angeles stretching from Ventura, Orange, San Bernardino, and Riverside Counties. She was an Assignment Editor for the duration of her time there.

She also worked for CNN’s Los Angeles Bureau as an Assignment Editor from 2003-2005 while still at KTLA.
Khan wore different hats during her service at KTLA as Traffic Cast (2006-2007) and Weather and Traffic Producer (2013–2014). After many years, it gave her the advantage to recognize weather patterns, fire danger, and freeway congestion.
After fifteen years, she took the step in front of the camera and moved on to KMIR in Palm Desert, CA to be a weather reporter until the end of 2016.

Now she is back in Los Angeles at KTTV (Fox 11) in LA. Covering weather-related events through the years made her realize how much she enjoyed it. She feels that weather affects everyone and that keeping current with it keeps the community safe.
