Sheba Turk doesn’t have a life of rainbows, but her ability to focus on the good and project a positive vibe might have you believe otherwise! For more than a decade, Sheba was a News Anchor and Reporter at WWL-TV, based in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Personal Life : Parents, Family and Education
- Sheba was born and raised in East New Orleans, Gentilly, Louisiana. She believes shifting her perspective from what she doesn’t have to what is positive and important has kept her on her upward path, despite the negativity, loss, and heartbreak.
- Turk graduated from St. Mary’s Dominican High School, where she was active in musical theater and enjoyed writing. Sheba says she misses doing theater but thinks “it’s funny I still ended up being part of a live show. In many ways, live TV and theater are very similar to me.”
- After high school, Sheba went to NYU and then transferred to the University of New Orleans (UNO), from where she received a B.A. in English with a minor in journalism.
- Turk is defined by her hard-work ethic and confidence and started NYU as a pre-med student. By her sophomore year, she had decided that pre-med was the wrong career path, but states that her positivity helped her navigate career decisions & she has no regrets about coming home to New Orleans.

- A pivotal career moment for Sheba came when Kim Bondy, a former NBC News executive producer, became her mentor. Bondy, impressed by Sheba’s work ethic, connected her with influential journalists like Soledad O’Brien. Kim even offered her an internship at CNN and helped cover the remainder of her tuition through the PowHERful Foundation.
- Turk’s professional journey continued as she graduated from the University of New Orleans in 2011 and interned at WDSU. Despite not securing a position there, Bondy’s connections led Sheba to work as a traffic reporter for WWL-TV in New Orleans. During the 2012 Hurricane Isaac storm coverage, she worked as a reporter covering the devastation and was shortly moved to the morning show reporter position.

- When Sheba was a kid, Hurricane Katrina had hit New Orleans & her family lost everything, including their pet dog! Thereafter, the family moved to Texas for one year before returning back to New Orleans.
- Turk has authored a biographical work on her journey in broadcasting, titled Off Air: My Journey to the Anchor Desk, by Pelican Publishing. A work she states started in a commencement speech she was asked to give.
- Sheba enjoys spending time with her dogs and trying out Asian restaurants in the city.
