My firstborn was born in 1979 and I still can remember, as if it was yesterday, holding my little baby in awe that God created such a gift. Congratulations! I was wondering how you picked your baby girl’s name? It is very unique. My daughter. Anela, was born when I was 44 years old. She is 16 now and I am 60.We have a beautiful relationship that I wouldn’t trade for anything. Age is a state of mind. Children keep us on our toes, and feeling younger!
I think they should remove Shawns name from the shows she would host. They’re really no longer hers. Stay home home as long as you are able. Your baby will grow up fast enough. Take a lifetime if you can. The shows will go on with or without you. Don’t miss a single day of your baby’s life. As for QVC…life goes on. Ask previous hosts. I know you are missed but how missed will you be if come back to the show while during her most informative years. Think about it.
my mother was 35 when I was born in 1953. I don’t feel that I suffered because of her being an older mother. In fact, I’d say I benefited from her ago, because she had wisdom about life and was a strong independent woman. I learned that from her.
my parents were in their late 30’s when they had both my brother and me after years of trying to have children. We never felt as if we missed out on anything because our parents were a little older. In fact, we benefited from the wisdom that comes with age and the fact they knew exactly what they wanted. They were ready to be devoted parents and we knew we were wanted and loved. Please do not judge people you know so little about. Many women Shawn’s age give birth. She struggled and she and her husband decided to adopt, not buy, a child. What a blessing for heir family!
I think its sad that people with money can literally buy babies, even if they are too old. There are plenty of older kids she could have given a home to if this was truly about love to give. There are so many younger people who would have loved that baby and were unable to concieve and just did not have the money to buy one like Shawn did. It sounds harshm, but it is what it is. I feel so sorry for you Mary Jane. There must be some jealousy/hate for you to make the comments you did. I had a child at 37 when in your eyes I would have been “too old”. I went to a fertility Dr to help me conceive and I have a handsome 12 year old son. Yes, I am 51 now. I had my son at 37 because I chose to be married first and that didn’t happen until later in my life. There are lots of women these days that wait until later in life to have children. There is nothing wrong with Shawn wanting to have/raise a baby at 38 and if they have the money for that child to live a comfortable life then that’s a lucky child. Your comment was ridiculous and hurtful and I only hope next time you might try to put the show on the other foot and be a little more understanding.

A reply to Mary Jane- my daughter was born when I just turned 42.We adopted her in China. She will be 19 in Nov. And I just turned 61. I have been with her, since she was one and hope to be around longer in her life. The funny thing is that we are not rich and yes we are older. But then again my Mom died when I was 15.5.And she was just 52.NO ONE IS PROMISED TOMARROW. It is the time spent.

MaryJane I was a labor and delivery nurse for 32yr. I saw many moms that were 14 and 15yr old and also moms that had their first babies at 45 and 47 because God finally granted their dream of having a baby! Is that mom to be criticized because when her child is 16 that she will be 63?? It almost sounds like you were the child of older parents and didn’t like them or you were an older child that wasn’t adopted. My husband’s older brother was adopted because his parents couldn’t get pregnant and adopted a baby. Should I condem them because they got a baby or that 22mos later they were able to have there biological son? There are many women that have had babies naturally long after nature should have ended that ability. In my eyes those babies are special and gifts from God! Shawn and Joe or any other couple out there that have gone through what they have, Gods blessings and love for your new family. Ignore embittered people’s poison remarks and end enjoy every minute of your life as it speeds by so quickly.

You are a warm, sweet, kind person and I am glad you have your new little one. I was also happy to hear your Dad has done well. I have been going through the same circumstance sadly with both my parents. Life is hard so it is nice to hear some good news. I think sometimes people who write such negative things have not viewed life from our perspective. God Bless your family and thanks for all the laughs when I really needed them!

It is hard breaking how some people are so cruel. What does age has to do with adopting a baby. I think you need to pray and keep your nose out of other people business.
I have two adopted sons, grown men now. They have been the joy of my life, and a blessing every day. At 33, and 28- they continue to be. A special plaque was given to me that I cherished. It said: you are sons didn’t grow under your heart, but IN IT! Blessings to you 3 !
I so enjoy watching others celebrate life’s blessings. Shawn and Joe congratulations on the birth of your daughter. A baby can change everything that you feel about life and open our eyes to what a special miracle of love they bring to life. She and Joe suffered a horrible loss and it’s God’s blessing that they now have this beautiful child. They deserve this baby and she will be truly loved.
