- Shasta Darlington is an experienced international correspondent for CNN based in San Paulo, Brazil.
Early Life, Education and Career before CNN :
- Shasta was born in Boulder, Colorado, in 1970.
- She is a graduate of Middlebury College in Vermont with a Bachelor’s degree in English and Spanish Literature.
- First, she began her career as a reporter for The News in 1994, which is a local English newspaper in Mexico City.
- Working for the Los Angeles Times, she reported mainly on stories regarding the drug wars.
- The Reuters then employed Shasta, initially as a Senior Correspondent in Brazil for three years, and then as a General News Correspondent in Italy for four years until 2005.
- Around the same time, since 1997, Shasta also worked at Bloomberg News as a correspondent. Her primary tasks here were to cover the economic crisis at the time, also the rise of drug wars and prison riots.
- When she was the General News Correspondent for the Reuters, Shasta had the opportunity to cover the passing of Pope John Paul II. She also reported on former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi during his time in office, and the leadership of Italy in the European Union.

- In 2006, Darlington joined CNN as a Havana-based producer for nearly six years. There she covered the reign of the late Fidel Castro, former president of the Republic of Cuba, and the handover to his brother, Raul Castro.
- There she also reported on the 2008 hurricane season as a field producer, chasing the three hurricanes that hit Cuba that year (i.e., Hurricane Ike, Hurricane Gustav, and Hurricane Paloma).

- In 2014, while covering the protest against the World Cup live, she was injured by a tear gas canister thrown by the police. She suffered minor laceration while her producer was hit at the wrist. She was aided by protesters that were on scene.
- Darlington also had the opportunity to carry the Olympic torch in 2016 for 3 minutes, and later passed it on to CNN Senior International Correspondent Arwa Damon that was covering preparations for the Olympics then.
