Branson made headlines when she suffered from a stroke on-air while broadcasting live in 2011. She began speaking incoherently while reporting on the Grammy Awards outside the Staples Stadium.
However, it was later revealed that it was not a stroke as previously speculated, but a complex migraine that is hereditary in her family. The symptoms of her migraine are eerily similar to symptoms of a stroke. Her vitals were checked to be normal, and she was not hospitalized.

Since her mishap, Serene has been heavily involved in the National Headache Foundation.
