Ron Savage was an anchor and reporter for Fox 2, who unexpectedly passed away in early 2017.
Personal Life, Parents and Family Details :
- Ron was born on January 31st 1954 in Highland Park, Michigan.
- He was raised in both Detroit and Fowlerville with his parents and 4 siblings – Elizabeth, Pat, Dave and Tom.
- After being raised in a sporting community and growing to the height of 6.5,” he went on to play semi-pro football in Lansing, Memphis and North Carolina.
- He had an interest in being a firefighter from a young age.

- During his years in college in the Michigan area, Ron met his future wife Mitzi Savage.
- After the two married, they went on to have one son, Ronnie, who was born in 2001. It has been said that his son is an accomplished athlete just like his father.

- In 1999, after giving up his semi-professional football career, Ron landed a job with Fox2. He started as a general reporter and was eventually moved up to a permanent weekend anchor role.
- Throughout his entire broadcast journalism career, he stayed with the Fox 2 network and was praised for his loyalty.
- His catchphrase on-air was ‘top job,’ and he was always seen with a big smile that matched his positively booming voice.
- One of his most popular segments was the Michigan’s Most Wanted section. He had massive respect for law enforcement, and it has been said that his Most Wanted segment aided in capturing thousands of criminals since its premier in 2001.
- Apart from working as an anchor and reporter, he also routinely volunteered as a firefighter.
- He had also worked as a paid firefighter, having worked in stations in Milford, Brighton, and Walled Lake.
Ron Savage Death and Funeral :
- On February 25th, 2017, Ron unexpectedly died in Milford, Michigan.
- At the time of his death, he was performing a training exercise with the Milford Fire Service, with whom he had volunteered. The exercise was designed to get him ready for the Fight for Air Climb event at the Renaissance Center towers.
- Fight for Air Climb is an annual event, designed to raise money for multiple charities, and Ron competed in it annually to raise money for the American Lung Association.
- It was later revealed that he had suffered a fatal heart attack, and was in the beginning stages of a heart issue that he was not aware of.
- Fox 2 aired memorials on every segment for the next month after his passing.
- A visitation for Ron was held on 1st March 2017 at the Lynch and Sons funeral home in Milford, for the general public. A private visitation was held the next day, before his funeral was held on 2nd March 2017 at the St. Mary Catholic Church in Milford.
