- In June 1998, Randy was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Disease, a cancer of a part of the immune system, with a mass found in his chest and some lymph nodes.
- It did not deter his determination to do his job well as he dealt with cancer while remaining on-air, trying to be appearing as normal as he can be. He won the fight after a long series of treatments & was later declared cancer-free.
- Years later, the Shavers founded the Randy Shaver Cancer Research and Community Fund, aiming to raise funds for research, treatment, prevention, and programs that would significantly help the community in combatting cancer. It has been a successful endeavor and was able to raise significant funds through golf events and other projects.
- 20 years after he had beaten cancer, Randy announced that he was again diagnosed with prostate cancer. He had a great support system and was optimistic, but recognized that the journey wouldn’t be easy. It stops him from doing his work and continuously helping others through his foundation. Currently, he is continuing with his radiation treatment.
