Phillip Mena is a Mexican-American journalist. He is also an anchor and reporter for the NBC show Early Today.

- Phillip Mena was born on April 30, 1981, in El Paso, Texas, to parents Ramiro Mena Jr. (father), an elementary school teacher, and Laura Mena (mother), an occupational therapist.
- He is the eldest of three siblings: he has a younger sister, 36-year-old Clare Felix, a marketer, and a 32-year-old younger brother, Marc Mena, a firefighter (ages as of 2023).
- Raised in El Paso, Phillip was born only two miles north of the US-Mexican border. He wonders how his life might have been very different if he had been born two miles south instead of north.
- Phillip attended Montwood High School, a public high school in El Paso.
- After graduating from high school, Phillip attended the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) for a semester before dropping out and seeking other opportunities.

- After graduating from college, Phillip began his journalistic and reporting career at the KTSM station in El Paso. While at KTSM, Phillip reported on the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, Mexican drug cartels, and the trial of Luis Posada Carriles.
- He ended up being an anchor and reporter on five daily shows in El Paso split between NBC and CBS.
- Phillip then relocated to Houston, Texas, where he was a weekday reporter and weekend anchor for KPRC Channel 2.
- In April 2015, Phillip joined the ranks of ABC News, where he was part of a Daytime Emmy and Murrow award-winning team. While there, he reported from the trial of Dylann Roof.
- Phillip then moved to New York City to work for NBC and MSNBC.
- He is currently hosting NBC’s Early Today show, and he also fills in as host, anchor, and correspondent for the MSNBC weekend shows.

- Between finishing his degree at Arizona State University and getting his first broadcast journalism job, Phillip worked at the mall in Phoenix, Arizona, doing part-time jobs for several retailers such as Escada, Express, and BCBG Max Azria. He had also worked at Express in El Paso previously.
- His favorite way to unwind after his busy job is playing sports and working out, as well as attending the games of his favorite teams.
- After reporting on various stories on space, Phillip became a NASA and space enthusiast and is now a certified stargazer with his own telescope at home.
- While he was growing up, his father, Ramiro, worked at a supermarket, and his mother, Laura, was a school secretary. Both his parents made an example of themselves when they returned to college to finalize their degrees, setting a high bar for all three of their children. During the semester Phillip spent at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), he coincided with his father also being a student there at the same time.

I really like Phillip mostly because he reminds me of my oldest brother, Daniel, who is unfortunately no longer living.
Where did Philip Mena go? I enjoyed watching him on the very early show.
I love watching Phillip Mena on Early Today. I missed him when he left KPRC 2 news channel in Houston, TX. Was glad to see him on the early news at 4 am. Very professional. Just hate when they put someone else in his place. Keep him on the Early Today news in the mornings. He is an awesome news anchor!

Haven’t seen Phillip on Early Today for weeks, I sure hope he is still anchoring it with Frances. I really enjoy watching when the two are on.
If on leave for family, you would think they would say he’s off but will be back as they do on the today show. I give up time to move on up the channel. Just don’t like the program anymore, Frances talks way too much.
