  • Nina was raised in Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire. Growing up, she was the only Asian child in the neighbourhood, creating misery & quite a few issues.
  • Currently, she resides in London together with her husband and her beautiful daughter.
  • Nina loves jogging! Quite frighteningly, she was mugged at knifepoint in a subway on London’s South Bank around 2005, when she went jogging.

Education and Career Path :

  • Nina attended Leeds University & graduated with a degree in English and German.
  • She then got a job with BBC Radio Leeds as a newsroom assistant writing the traffic reports.
  • Before it was closed down, Nina had the opportunity to work at the BBC Headquarters at Pebble Mill Studios Midlands, where she presented and reported live news & current affairs for BBC Radio 5 and also co-presented Q-Asia on BBC2.

Overcoming Challenges :

  • Since she was in school, Nina used to hate her name & would dream of having an English name like Brown or Smith. Though with time, she came to embrace her Asian roots and is proud of her name.
  • Even after she got married, she did not change her name to Ronson, which is her husband’s name, but maintained it to be Nina Nannar.
  • When Nina was young and just starting out, it used to be very strange to see an Asian person on British TV.
  • During her training course at BBC, her full name became obvious, and it was received with much concern; she was actually told that she might have to change her name, but she chose not to.
  • From the start, Nina knew that it was not going to be easy since, for one, she was a woman and secondly, she was Asian, but this did not deter her. Currently, she is amongst the most successful news reporters, and her career is at a level in which many would wish to get to.

Achievements :

  • Nina’s job has enabled her to be at the Oscars about eight times, to the BAFTAS and to the Brit Awards.
  • During the course of her work, she has interviewed some of the top stars in the entertainment & sports industry like Tom Cruise, Britney Spears, Usain Bolt and Will Smith, amongst others.
  • She was selected as the host of the first Jermain’s Fundraising Gala for his Foundation. This Foundation main purpose is to help young people of St. Lucia who are in need.

Charity Work :

  • Nina is actively involved in charity work. She is the Sense International Ambassador. This is a charity organization that supports the deaf and the blind. Nina has helped to raise funds for this charity for the purpose of setting up schools abroad.
  • She is also an Ambassador for the Prince’s Trust, a Governor at Norwich University of Arts, a Host for the East Anglian Book Awards and an ardent supporter of the Norwich Writers Centre.
  • Nina also took part in a campaign set to raise money for a Norwich mother, Kerri McAuley, who was murdered by her abusive former partner.
