Leah McLean is an American producer, reporter, and news anchor.

Personal Life : Parents, Family and Education

Leah grew up in Minneapolis & studied at Minnehaha Academy before she went to college at the University of Saint Thomas to take up Communication and Media Studies in 2001.
In a 2012 video, she recognized Minnehaha for instilling in her the importance of discipline and excellence when it came to studying, which made her ready & capable of performing well in college. She also credited Minnehaha for instilling Christian values, which have been her guiding principle wherever life took her.
Leah is a mother to two daughters – Grace Evelyn (born in May 2012) and Eloise Patricia (born in December 2013), with her ex-husband Ben.

In November 2017, Leah and Ben divorced. In an emotional Facebook post, Leah revealed that divorce washed away all the plans she made for her future and left her with an open field for new experiences and goals. The divorce led to a career change that saw her leave the top slot as the 10 pm news anchor.
When she has time, Leah now enjoys going out with her kids around Minnesota and spending time doing all sorts of outdoor activities.

Leah started her career around 2002 as an assignment editor for KGUN-TV in Tucson, Arizona. She worked on the show called On Your Side.
She was then a journalist for KTVZ in Bend, Oregon, from May to October that same year.
From October 2002 to June 2004, she was an evening newscast anchor and producer for WAOW in Wausau, Wisconsin.

Since June 2004, McLean has been a news anchor, reporter, and producer for KSTP-TV in the Twin Cities.
In September 2018, Leah changed from anchoring the 5, 6, and 10 pm newscasts to anchoring only the 5 pm newscast. This allows her to spend more time at home with her daughters to watch them grow and be there for them. That December, Leah was a fill-in anchor during the evening newscasts due to the vacation of her colleague Jackie Cain.
Currently, Leah continues to be a reporter for the network too but has stated that she wants to have time to enjoy dinner with her daughters every day.

Volunteering and Other Interests :

Besides pursuing her career, Leah has also did volunteering work at the Wooddale Church as a Sunday school teacher as well as at the Our Lady of Grace Catholic School.
She is a board trustee of her high school Minnehaha Academy. In August 2017, she went back to Minnehaha Academy to show her support when a gas leak caused a portion of the academy’s high school to explode, causing two deaths. It was Leah who went to cover the sad news.

Leah is also a board member of Urban Ventures, a non-profit organization aiming to alleviate poverty. She attended their 25th-anniversary celebration in October 2018 to appreciate what the organization has become and what’s in store for their future.
In 2018, Mclean also attended the Women Entrepreneurs Minnesota’s Fall Forum as one of the moderators, discussing the significance of prioritizing family and how it correlates to working and becoming a better professional.

Leah’s first job was being a babysitter for the neighborhood kids who were younger than her.
More than two months after she decided to move to the 5PM news program, Leah surprised everyone when she came back to the evening program in December to cover for Jackie Cain who took a vacation.
She adores the fall season in Minnesota a lot & refers to it as her favorite season.

She loves doing all sorts of outdoor activities with her daughters, especially exploring her home state of Minnesota with them. She’s especially fond of skiing, biking, and visiting the lakes in Minnesota.

Was her mother an arts teacher at Coon Rapids? I remember a talented teacher looking similar to her back in early 80s.

Leah is a beautiful person, inside and out. I used to babysit her and her brother. She has turned out to be someone who touches people’s lives and is a giver. I can tell that by all the programs she volunteers for.
