Kristy was born on June 8, 1980, and raised in the backcountry of Oregon, where she grew up leading a pack string of mules, thus developing her passion for nature. She even attended high school there.
She shared her passion for hunting with her dad, as they would go on hunts together. Her first hunts were from the back of the mules her parents owned.

On her personal website, Kristy claims that she has “Experienced the thrill of public land, fair chase, and do-it-yourself western big-game hunting.“
