Kristin…Thank you for your news report on NBC nightly news with Lester Holt tonight (10/27). You brought out some of the devastations that our seniors have suffered because of covid. My mother will be 90 in January 2021 and had covid diagnosed 10/2. She had almost no symptoms, but of course, had to be in quarantine and locked down for 10 days. I understand…She didn’t understand. Her dementia doesn’t allow her to. With 8 married daughters, 26 grandchildren (most of them married), and 47 great-grandchildren…No one can get in. We live in mn and the assisted living where she is doesn’t allow indoor visits.
Do you have any idea how cold it has been this October? Today it was 16 and up to 32…How on earth do you take a 90-year-old senior citizen out to visit in weather like that? We keep being told they are working on a plan for indoor visiting but even then won’t allow children. Covid is killing far more people because of isolation, loneliness, and separation than the disease itself. You mentioned essential caregivers in mn. One of my sisters and I are allowed 3 hours a wk each. That’s it! I use to spend 24, 48, and sometimes 72 hours with her twice a month. My sister and I continue to have the covid test weekly so we can spend our 3 hrs each with mom. What are 6 hours out of 168??? The facility also limits the opportunity to only 2 loved ones as essential caregivers. My other sisters are not allowed in.
Mom’s 8-year-old great-granddaughter cried herself to sleep the other night because she can’t hug great-grandma! Please continue to let the public know how devastating it is to our senior citizens. Honestly, most of them would rather die of covid than all the loneliness!! Thank again for trying to bring it to the public
