- Keelin Shanley was a presenter, newsreader and journalist who used to work for Raidio Teilifis Eireann (RTE) in Ireland.
- Passionate, hard-working and multi-talented, Keelin did a great job of balancing her career with her personal life.
Personal Life : Parents, Family and Education
- Keelin was born on 24th August 1968 in Dublin, Ireland. She had spent the majority of her life living in Ireland but little was known about her childhood or upbringing.
- She was married to a man named Conor Ferguson. Together, they had two children, a son named Ben and a daughter named Lucy. Her children were born when Keelin was in her late 30s. The family lived in Portobello, Dublin. Conor works in the advertising industry but the exact details of his job are not clear.
- She attended Trinity College in Dublin and studied Biochemistry before switching to Journalism.
- Around 2011, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. After a long battle with the ailment, Shanley passed away in Feb 2020. Even her mother had passed away at the age of 59, on account of ovarian cancer.

- Initially, Keelin was interested in pursuing a career in biochemistry, but later changed her mind and set her sights to a career in journalism.
- Shanley’s career was largely based in Ireland & had seen her work both on television and in radio.

- Back at the RTE station, she worked as a presenter, covering national elections and special budgets as part of the crew on Crimecall, Morning Edition. She also worked on the Consumer Show in addition to presenting a documentary called Hacked for the Morning Ireland Show.
- Keelin’s longest stint with the RTE so far has been as a presenter and reporter for the station’s Prime Time show which covers current national and global affairs. She worked on the show for a decade & was part of several teams that created, presented and produced multiple documentaries which were critically recognized and appreciated across the country.
- Till 2020, she worked as a presenter for the RTE station’s Six One News. Keelin held the position as co-presenter since the beginning of January 2018 along with her colleague, Caitriona Perry.
- After being announced as the new presenters of the show, Caitriona and Keelin opened up in an interview that although they were excited to be a part of the team, they were planning on turning down their job offers if the hiring process was based on their gender and not their talents and experience levels.
Interesting Facts and Trivia :
- While walking along Camden Street in Dublin on New Year’s Eve, Keelin stopped to assist a homeless man with some change but accidentally donated her wedding ring in the process. Despite efforts to find it that included starting a campaign dedicated to tracking the ring down, she did not find it.
- Keelin didn’t go to Gaelscoil, but her two sisters and her children had gone there.
Health Update :
- Keelin Shanley Illness / Sick : When she was diagnosed with cancer in 2011, Keelin’s children were just two and four years old, and she worked while undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatment.
- In 2013, She told Ryan Tubridy on the Late Late Show.
- Keelin Shanley Dies / Dead / Death : It was confirmed by RTÉ on 8 February 2020 that Shanley died after a battle of more than two years.
