Growing up between both Spain and the UK, Kate Bateman is the daughter of her parents – 2 artists & auctioneers who owned an antique store and art gallery.
She is happily married to long-time love Matt. Kate’s husband is a good foot taller than her. Together the couple has three children – all boys.
She regularly jokes that she has three monsters rather than sons, however, has stated that having children changed her life for the better.

Her family is based in both the UK and Chicago, USA, and they split their time between the two continents.
Kate was educated at the Oundle School, and then went on to attend the University of Nottingham, graduating from there with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She has also completed studies in English and French.

Love for Antiques :

Fresh out of University, Kate briefly worked in publishing in London before realising her real passion lay in antiques.
She has stated that due to not being able to afford to collect her true interest (Russian silver, ancient Egyptian/Roman antiquities and Old Master drawings), she has instead taken to collecting things she feels “sorry for” in auction houses. This has resulted in her owning a hilarious collection of wobbly furniture & chipped China.

After working in her family businesses while growing up, she then went on to found Batemans (an auction house) with her father, Ron Bateman. The business is located in Stamford and officially opened in 2001.
It was while working there that she was approached to appear on Flog It! Although initially being hesitant, she accepted the offer and received good reviews.
After this she was approached to appear on Bargain Hunt, and now being used to on-camera life, she accepted the position.

Career as an Author and Novel Writer :

Kate has a book deal, working under the name KC Bateman. She describes her work as historical romances with strong female leads, but others have suggested that her writing lends itself more to an erotica style.

She has currently published 3 books in a series titled ‘Secrets and Spies’: To Steal A Heart, A Ravens Heart and A Counterfeit Heart
Her debut novel, To Steal A Heart, has 4+ stars on GoodReads & received mostly positive reviews overall.
Kate has stated that her love of history allowed her to do well in the world of antiques, and writing these novels is just an extension of that love. She adds that she hates old-fashioned romantic novels, where they just slam the bedroom door and nothing happens!
