Wagland began her career volunteering for a news channel before taking a paid position in Ontario at one of CTV’s affiliates.
She was a co-host for OHL on their Peel Sports hockey show, which covered all news related to the North Bay Battalion and the Mississauga Steelheads. She also covered the CHL Memorial Cup in 2011.

The same year, Kara joined the TSN team in Toronto and worked as a sports editor for the station’s Sports Centre newsroom.
In 2013, she moved to CTV Kitchener and began working as a sports anchor for the station’s weekend shows. She covered a lot of sporting highlights as well as local sports news and important events.
She returned to TSN in 2014 and hosted Wimbledon Primetime, where she recapped historical events during the Wimbledon tournament and profiled the likes of Eugenie Bouchard and Milos Raonic. Wagland was also the host of the channel’s U.S. Open coverage.

Kara has also previously worked in Oshawa for Studio 12 and was a part of the Rogers TV Peel team of hosts.

Kara’s most significant career moment came in 2017 when she hosted TSN’s live coverage of the tragic news about former Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Roy Halladay’s plane crash. It was a challenging “sink-or-swim” situation that required her to steer a breaking news-style show for three commercial-free hours.

Wagland describes the toughest year of her life as the year following university. Having spent so much time studying law and pre-law, she felt so aimless once she decided that it wasn’t the right career path for her.

Kara is a big fan of the American football player Troy Polamalu and describes as him being the only reason she is a huge Pittsburgh Steelers fan.

Regarding the Jays; yes, I agree with Kara that the team needs to make a big acquisition if they are to reach the World Series. I also think they need more pitching – starting, middle relief, and definitely another closer. I just hope they aren’t peaking too early, as it is only July.
