Jane Coaston is an American journalist. Till November 2020, she was a senior politics reporter at Vox Media and she wrote for MTV. Since November 2020, she has been the Host/Editor of the opinion podcast, “The Argument”, for The New York Times.

- Jane Coaston was born on September 23, 1987, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to mixed-race parents Jody Samuels Coaston (mother, a case manager by profession), and Byron Coaston (father, librarian by profession). Byron and Jodi have been married since 1979.
- Jane describes her parents as “Union Democrats who were giant hippies”. Her dad was a black librarian, whereas her mother was white & worked with neglected and abused children.
- Her grandfather served in the only Black U.S. Army unit to land on the Normandy beaches in 1945. Her grandmother, whose childhood home was burned down by the KKK, was one of the first Black ladies to work at the Pentagon.
- Jane has an older sister, Susannah Coaston.
- Growing up in Cincinnati, Jane went to Nativity School then to an all-girls high school, Ursuline Academy, in Blue Ash, Ohio. She graduated from Ursuline Academy in 2005.
- Jane then went on to study at the University of Michigan (UMich) in Ann Arbor, Michigan, from 2005 to 2009.
