Introduction :
Ella Dorsey is an American journalist. She is also a meteorologist, currently working for CBS46 on their new morning show, Wake Up Atlanta.

- Ella Dorsey was born on May 2, 1991, in Baltimore, Maryland, to parents Jan Winburn (mother) and Gary Dorsey (father).
- She was raised as an only child. Ella was raised in Baltimore, Maryland, and then moved to Atlanta, Georgia, when she was thirteen years old.
- Her father, Gary Dorsey, is a writer. Her mother, Jan Winburn, is currently a senior digital editor for CNN. Ella has mentioned that her mother was an inspiration to her, and she dreamed of experiencing the same success in her own career.
- When her parents separated, her mother eventually got a new partner, Bill Mason. Ella was close to Bill too.
- In August 2020, Ella’s grandmother passed away. Her grandma had shattered many glass ceilings and had become the first female president of a Missouri-based bank. Starting off as a low-level assistant cashier, she had risen through the ranks to become the President.
- From the age of four, Dorsey wanted to be a meteorologist. At that age, her father gave her a video about tornados, and she fell in love with the study of weather.
- After graduating from high school, Ella attended the University of Georgia, Athens (UGA), where she was at the Franklin College of Arts. She graduated Summa cum Laude with a Bachelor’s degree in Geography and a Certificate in Atmospheric Science. She was at college from 2009 to 2013.

- After growing up in Maryland and Georgia, Ella has also lived in Knoxville, East Tennessee. She has now returned to her home state of Georgia and resides in Atlanta.

- After graduating from college, Ella relocated to Knoxville, East Tennessee, in January 2014. She worked for WBIR-TV as a meteorologist and experienced the ever-changing weather fronts in the city, including tornadoes and ice storms.
- In 2016, Ella moved back to Atlanta, Georgia, where she joined her current company, CBS46. She was initially a Weekend Meteorologist there but then became part of the weather forecast segments during the CBS46 News at 5 pm and 11 pm. She’s also part of the CBS46 News at 9pm that airs on Peachtree TV.
- Since October 2020, Ella has been the morning meteorologist for CBS46, on-air from 4:30 to 7AM during the new show Wake Up Atlanta. She appears on the show with new CBS46 host Rob Hughes. Wake Up Atlanta is a dynamic morning show that covers lots of topics, with the weather at the center of it all.
- Wheelan has signed a contract with CBS46 that extends until 2023, and she has fully settled down in Atlanta thanks to this stability.
Awards and Recognition :
- Ella is a ‘Certified Broadcast Meteorologist’, a certification awarded to broadcasting meteorologists who show a notable scientific understanding, especially of environmental issues. It is considered a mark of distinction among weather professionals.
- In June 2017, Ella and her colleague where nominated for an Emmy Award, for their coverage on Hurricane Irma.

We have lived in Athens Georgia for 5 years and really enjoy watching Ella give the weather report. She is so professional and pretty too. We have five family members that are UGA graduates.
