Dobbie’s career truly began in late 2005 when she started working as a self-employed antiques dealer. She started off as Managing Director for Nanadobbie. The company is based in Brighton, UK, where she currently resides. Much like she did when she was younger, Alys started buying various unique pieces from local fairs and auctions and sold many of them to designer shops.
Dobbie’s motivation for starting the business – most of her customers are 20-somethings who are tired of flat-pack furniture that breaks after a year. At the same price, they could purchase something handcrafted that exudes heritage, which could appreciate in value over time.
In October of 2014, Alys was approached by television producers who loved her unique pieces and quirky personality. They offered Alys the chance to appear on the RDF television program Dickinson’s Real Deal.

Excited by the opportunity, Alys joined the show and became an on-screen antiques expert, offering viewers advice on how to pick out the best pieces to either resell or keep. She has now been a cast member of the Dickinson’s Real Deal show for well over seven years.
Alys is also an expert in Mid-Century antiques, having spent several years working in the industry. Her expertise in this area is invaluable, as she has a deep understanding of the history and culture of these items.
Besides all of the work she currently does, Alys is also an avid floral artist and expert who runs a business called Between Two Thorns that specialises in selling plants for weddings, offices, homes and other special events.
